I was going by car yesterday. I saw my favourite Pan shop so I stopped my car . I went to shop and ordered sweet Masala Paan. As I was leaving the pan shop, a man stopped me and he asked" Do you have 5 minutes I want to ask you a very serious question about my son. Sir, my son wants to be a fashion designer after 12th, is it right career for him?"
I am a career counselor in a small but beautiful town Bhuj in Gujarat. He knew me very well so he asked this question. I was confused because I didn't know his son's background, father's background, I didn't know the skill(aptitude) , motivation and interest(attitude) of his son. So I advised him to send his son next day at personality development Academy that is the center where I work as a career counselor. His son came with his mother next day.

If you want to choose the right career, you need to know 4 things
1. Your value system.
2. Your personality type.
3. Your interests.
4. Your skills.
Finally you have to do SWOT analysis that strength,weakness , opportunity and threat analysis to find out the most suitable career for you.
I explained those things to his son and mother. I told him that I offer a psychometric test that help to find out the four things that I mention about. It takes nearly 60 minutes to complete the tests. You get the result after 5 minutes.Then you have to read the report carefully, you have to discuss among your parents , family members, friends and teachers. Finally, I offer career counselling for two to three times on telephone or by personal counselling.
This is how you can decide the career that give you satisfaction, money and the meaning in life so you can live happy life.This is a standard procedure that most sensible teen and his parents should follow.
But most of the teen and their parents do not follow this simple advice so you see many people spend 10 to 15 million rupees in professional education after that they are not happy with their careers and they need to change the careers.Sometimes, it is heartbreaking to know that the career that you have chosen is not right for you. You have degree, you might have job ,if you are lucky but you are not happy with the career. Then it is always advisable to take psychometric tests and career counselling before you choose your career.
